ULTIMATE FALL WEDDING WITH JEWEL-TONE PALETTE

January 16, 2020 by sylvanside Leave a Comment

So many couples cross their fingers for that “perfect fall day” – the ideal mix of peak foliage and temperate weather. Cayla and Adam lucked out for their October 2019 wedding here at Sylvanside, and everything from their rich palette down to the bride’s gorgeous red locks played off the surroundings. Take a look at this recap from Lauren Harbin of Chancey Charm.

This fall wedding was one of the highlights of my 2019 season. You could not plan a more perfect date with the rich foliage, temperate weather, and beautiful event spaces at Sylvanside Farm.

Cayla and Adam met while in the Peace Corps and their love story continued when they moved to Washington D.C. While wedding planning, they knew they wanted the day to feel inclusive, warm, and fun! With family and friends being at the center of their hearts, they opted for “VIPS” rather than a traditional bridal party and had a family friend and Peace Corps peer officiate their wedding. Adam and Cayla opted for private vow readings before the ceremony and a romantic first look in front of the Sylvanside’s pond.

The day began in the Hunt Box and Cottage, two on-site lodging options where the couple, family, and friends stayed for the wedding weekend. Blushaway’s makeup and Dare To Be Unforgettable’s hair team was

conveniently in the on-site salon while Affordable Arrangements florals arrived for ceremony and reception set up. Cayla wanted a rich berry palette for her day filled with purples, blues, and touches of gold accents.

On the gorgeous fall wedding day, Elizabeth M Photography and her team were giddy over the rich foliage and Cayla’s hair. The Azazie ink blue dresses were striking against the farm’s greenery and the mens’ dark red ties were a perfect pair to the berry hues in the girls’ bouquets.

There's no way we could have arrived at this moment without the unstoppable, unforgettable, undeniable love of all the couples and guests who have said yes to love - yes to dancing - yes to strolling through the fields, arm in arm without a care in the world.

Proud to remember the man who was not afraid to lead the people toward truth and justice, to stand for what is right rather than follow the status quo. May we continue to follow his lead, and the guidance of so many other unsung activists, as we structure our every day toward justice and love.

Dreaming up the best year yet! It's hard to Dreaming up the best year yet!

It's hard to believe when we got to the land just three years ago, it was in foreclosure. There was an offer on the land to take down the existing buildings - including our Poplar Barn, which is the largest in the county and built in the 1800's.
The plan? To put in a cluster of new houses.

The land had fallen wild, and no one had lived here for many years. The buildings were covered in vines (we're talking many thousands of dollars, just for vine removal), and we worked many nights and days without rest, just to get it up and running again.

And now, to think that we've had our 90th wedding and all 5 star reviews.

Every building has been rebuilt (by our in-house woodshop) by our co-owner and Jack-of-all-trades, Jeff, who grew up just down the street in Bluemont and was trained in his trade just miles away.

We stocked the pond with fish and have been attracting chimney swifts to create ecological balance. We encourage bats and pollinators, foregoing use of chemicals on the land, even when that's the easy option. We aim to keep the water from the spring-fed wells that charge our ponds cleaner than it was before it sprang naturally from the ground.

We foster Milking Devons, Clydesdales, and heritage breed guinea hogs to help us bring back the land in a way that reflects the Scottish ancestors who founded Sylvanside in the 1700's. Even a ring-tailed pheasant has started popping by lately, and has posted up near our hand-built chicken house to stay safe.

Our hope, our wish, our intention, is for every one who comes on the property to feel this safety. To feel respite amongst the constant development, the whirlwind that has been this year, and this time. We strive to stay true to this spirit of integrity as we bring the land back to health - keeping it as resilient as possible so that when you, and your families, stroll down the drive, you feel it to your bones.
